HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR MEALS?
The majority of our services are funded through the Older Americans Act. Depending on the service needed, there are age and income guidelines, and each county may have its own guidelines before adding you as a client. If you think you might qualify for some type of financial subsidy, the first step would be to contact your aging services department of the county in which you live.
Here are the counties Senior Connections currently serves:
Dekalb County Office of Senior Affairs 770-322-2950 www.co.dekalb.ga.us
Fulton County Office of Aging 404-613-6000 www.fultonhumanservices.org
Gwinnett County Senior Services 678-377-4150 www.gwinnettcounty.com
Rockdale County Senior Services 770-278-7230 www.rockdalecounty.org
Meals on Wheels of Middle Georgia (Bibb County) 478-745-9140 www.mealsonwheelsmidga.com
Private Pay: If you wish for services and do not think you would qualify for subsidized meals, please call 770-455-7602 to inquire about starting services.
IS THERE A COST TO YOUR SERVICES?
Part of our funding comes from county, state and federal dollars. Additional funds are provided by corporations and foundations. Each of these sources has specific guidelines that may include county of residence, age, income or other requirements. Depending on the type of service needed and your financial situation, services may be entirely without cost, available at a subsidized cost (co-pay) or for regulator price (private pay). The first step would be to contact your aging services department of the county in which you live (see list above). Private Pay meals are available at $6 per meal (delivered hot daily Monday through Friday) or frozen (2, 3 or 5 meals) once a week for $5 per meal. Private pay in-home care is available at $20 per hour (2-hour minimum).
HOW CAN I GET SAMPLE MENUS?
If you would like to see a sample menu, please email us and we’ll be happy to send you one. Be sure to include the type of menu you’d like (regular, diabetic, low-sodium, renal, vegetarian, or other health restrictions.
WHY CAN’T I GET MY HOME FIXED IF I’M A SENIOR?
The home repair services provided by Senior Connections are funded by grants. We apply for grants from corporate and private foundations. Each grant comes with restrictions determined by the foundation or company. It may be geographic (zip code, town, county, etc.). It might be age or another qualification (veterans, for example). When we receive a new grant, we align those in need who meet the funding requirements. There is never enough funding unfortunately. We suggest you also contact United Way 2-1-1 to see if other organizations might be able to assist you.
